Gaiwan Candle – Surreal Flower

The Vessel – Gaiwan

Brewing sensual aromas of green, white, and oolong tea, the Ming Dynasty Gaiwan is delicate yet functional in its structure and design. The vessel’s fine porcelain absorbs heat to minimise leaf damage while the concave lid acts as a small cup. To be drunk directly from the instrument or poured into another container, the Gaiwan is elegant, unchanged, and considered the official Imperial ceremony tea decanter.

Rich in their heritage and intricate, intentional form, MAHŌ Sensory Candles--a match in purposeful, modern artistry--have re-envisioned the Gaiwan in collaboration with Melbourne-based artists to honour the simplicity of fragrance meets design.

Reflective of the ancient practice of savouring steeped tea leaves from the concave Gaiwan lid, please enjoy the fragrance of each MAHŌ Sensory Candle before igniting the aromas. Each vessel has been designed to be repurposed as a collectible statement piece or part of a modern teaware collection once burning is complete.

The Scent – Surreal Flower

Blending reality with abstract design, Surreal Flower pays homage to a place of gritty earth, soul, and flower power. Inspired by the spirit of Woodstock ’69, it captures an abstract getaway grounded in peace, love, and connection, where pain, perfection, and ecstasy meet design.
Delicate tiaré and soft tuberose are grounded by earthy patchouli, tobacco, and bitter orange, then smoothed with rich caramel and sweet vanilla. Soft, earthy, and surreal, this transcendent floral escape evokes hazy nights, ecstatic dreaming, creativity, and a freedom state of mind.

The Artist - Lukas Kasper

Designed by Melbourne-based mural and skateboard artist Lukas Kasper, Surreal Flower intersects a radical fantasy with a tangible place and time. Reflective of a period of peace, love, and connection, Lukas captures blooming flowers, flowing ideas, and an opening of hearts and minds. Blurring identity, thoughts, happiness, and colour, Woodstock ‘69 mixes floral serenity with sharp colours to both spark and relax the mind.

Artist Statement:

Alive in the air
Feel your senses ignite
The flame and your body align, giving sight
Feel the heart, feel the peace, let it live, let it in
Like nature and love, it will always win

Currently residing in Melbourne, Australia, Queensland mural and skateboard artist Lukas Kasper envisions the surreal in abstract, vibrant colours. Striving to capture the audience and bring them inside his eclectic designs, Lukas relies on expressive patterns and monster visions to break away from expected imagery and ignite the imagination.

Exploring street art, mental health and wellbeing, and evolving his taste and ideas through personal growth and experience, Lukas’ art can be found across Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, Canada, and the USA.
